Captain John Hamilton MC joined 22 SAS in 1981 and commanded Mountain Troop. He first landed on South Georgia, survived 2 helicopter crashes and eventually led his troop into Grytviken a few days later. Within days he went to Pebble Island and destroyed 4 Pucara aircraft. Led patrols on Mount Kent, East Falkland to ambush enemy patrols. |

He served on four operational tours of Northern Ireland and was soon at the forefront of operations alongside 2 Special Boat Section and aided in the capture of the Argentine spyship "Narwhal". He was awarded the Queens Gallantry Medal. |

His ambition was to join 264 SAS Signal Squadron and eventually join the regiment. His service with special forces was exceptional. |
