As a Wireless Operator I was responsible for taking the Rear Gunners place if he was killed or wounded, and taking messages to and from base, or if the Navigator for any reason was lost I had to contact ground an duse Loop to get us back. I could read Morse and transmit at 26 WPM (Words Per Minute). ![]() ![]() At Whitchurch where we had our heavy conversion training from 2 engine to 4 engine aircraft. ![]() Training with Airborne, towing Gliders with Whitley Bomber. This could be very dodgy. Whitley's always flew nose slightly dipped. With a glider on tow this pulled the tail up more. So Pilot had to counter balance this. We had 4 crashes in Whitley's - two were licky to get away with it. ![]()

We went onto Stirlings dropping supplies to the underground in France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark and Norway. |

We went on a Bombing raid to Udem and at 10,000 feet we could drop 24 X 500 lb. bombs.
